Dimple Dish in Ash
Dimensions: Approximately 5 cm (H) x 17 cm (W)

This handmade, wheel-thrown dish shows my Lark Hill Ash Glaze, with its intensity subtly shifting based on the firing process. The green tones are derived from naturally occurring iron in the ash used for the glaze, in this case, sourced from a mix of trees from my in-laws fireplace. Each piece is reduction-fired for twelve hours in a gas kiln that I built this year.
This dish has two thumb marks on either end, which to my mind they look like dimples. This feature comes from when I take the bowl off the wheel, picking it up by a gentle pinch from either side, leaving my hand marks as part of the making process.
It is both food and dishwasher safe, though hand washing is recommended to preserve its finish. Made with red stoneware clay and ash glaze, it may develop natural staining over time. While durable, the edges can chip if handled roughly, so care is advised.
